Cooking for one can be a lonely, lack-lustre experience.
Anyone who goes it alone will tell you that it takes serious willpower to avoid the dreaded 'eggs on toast' rut. So, when Sarah Tuck decided it was time to release very own cookbook – a labour of love spawned after her 32-year marriage came to an abrupt end – it made perfect sense to dedicate this one to her fellow singles.
Coming Unstuck is a beautiful manifestation of the rainbow that follows the rain. Leafing through Sarah's compilation of recipes for all occasions, personal extracts and self-styled food photography, you'll feel inspired and excited to cook for yourself again.
"The chapters are slightly mad with ‘start the day right’, ‘sad arse dinners for one’, ‘share the love’, ‘the sweet stuff’ and more," Sarah writes on her blog, Stuck in the kitchen.
"There are dinners that you can make just for yourself (easy, quick and tasty), family-style meals, dinner party fare that isn’t a mission to prepare as well as breakfasts, nibbly bits, fridge/cupboard stuff, desserts and baking."
One of the chapters, the tongue-in-cheek-ily named “sad-arse dinners for one” boasts recipes like the Fix-me-up Soup, when you feel like you should be doing something healthy for yourself – green and full of flavour. There's the Evening-after-the-night-before Soup for when you need comfort without being too hard on the system and the scrambled eggs, salmon and edamame beans in an Asian dressing with brown rice that makes you feel like “I am just a health goddess”’, says Sarah, while the gruyere and bacon tarts are handy in the freezer for when you need a bit of decadence.
“It’s totally mood driven,” Sarah adds. “This whole idea of feeling obliged to ‘take care of myself’? Well, sometimes I feel like that and sometimes I don't.”
While the book was written because Sarah became “unstuck” and is brutal in its honesty, there are also big doses of humour and, ultimately, hope. As she writes: “Gradually the good days became way more common … I don’t lie down in the evening crying into the carpet anymore. It gets better.”
We are thrilled to offer the much awaited Dunedin Fonebook featuring incredible images of Dunedin places and its people with inspired recipes. Produced by Michelle Chalkin-Sinclair and Judith Cullen, it is a beautifully bound hardcover book to display on the coffee table and enjoy for many years.
From four stunning and accomplished French women -- at last -- a fresh and spirited take on what it really means to be a Parisienne: how they dress, entertain, have fun and attempt to behave themselves. In short, frisky sections, these Parisian women give you their very original views on style, beauty, culture, attitude and men. The authors--Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret, and Sophie Mas -- unmarried but attached, with children -- have been friends for years. Talented bohemian iconoclasts with careers in the worlds of music, film, fashion and publishing, they are untypically frank and outspoken as they debunk the myths about what it means to be a French woman today. Letting you in on their secrets and flaws, they also make fun of their complicated, often contradictory feelings and behavior. They admit to being snobs, a bit self-centered, unpredictable but not unreliable. Bossy and opinionated, they are also tender and romantic. You will be taken on a first date, to a party, to some favorite haunts in Paris, to the countryside, and to one of their dinners at home with recipes even you could do -- but to be out with them is to be in for some mischief and surprises. They will tell you how to be mysterious and sensual, look natural, make your boyfriend jealous, and how they feel about children, weddings and going to the gym. And they will share their address book in Paris for where to go: At the End of the Night, for A Birthday, for a Smart Date, A Hangover, for Vintage Finds and much more. How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are will make you laugh as you slip into their shoes to become bold and free and tap into your inner cool.

Strange, outdated laws from each of the 50 U.S. states—some overturned, some still on the books, and some merely the stuff of legends—are depicted with sly wit by Olivia Locher. Incisive, ironic, and gorgeous, these images will appeal to art buffs and trivia fans alike. A foreword from American poet Kenneth Goldsmith and an interview with the artist by Eric Shiner, former director of the Andy Warhol Museum, contextualize rising-star Locher's photography. From serving wine in teacups in Kansas to licking a toad in Kentucky or perming a child's hair in Nebraska, breaking the law has never looked so good.
Color is powerful – it can change our moods or raise our spirits. It can be positively life-enhancing, yet so many of us struggle with choosing the right shades for our home, instead falling back on a safe but unadventurous palette of bland neutrals.
In this, his third book, celebrated interior stylist Hans Blomquist reveals his lifelong passion for color and the way in which it can affect our emotions. Color can soothe, enchant or excite. And as Hans demonstrates, it has the ability to render rooms cool and calming, dynamic and stimulating or moody and intriguing.
As ever, Hans draws his inspiration from the treasures of the natural world, exploring shades from the dazzling optic white of newly fallen snow to the fiery crimson heart of a newly unfurled poppy and the inky canopy of the midnight sky. Divided into five sections – Dark, Pale, Soft, Natural and Bright – In the Mood for Colour will make you see color in a completely different light.
Interest in home design has been on the rise for some time, but Kinfolk's focus on slowing down and creating a more intentional, beautiful home is where the attention is shifting. Through luscious photographs and insightful interviews, the author takes us into 40 homes around the world, from the Americas to Europe, Asia to Africa, ending in Australia. The homes range from an old cabin in the woods to clean-lined modern apartments, from singles living in small spaces to sprawling, multi-generational houses in the country. Each will feel unmistakably Kinfolk.
Little David grew up in Leicester on the campus of a university, where his father was a professor. As a child, he spent hours in the science library, collating his own specimens and creating a mini animal museum. When he was old enough to go to university, he studied science and zoology – but what he wanted most of all was to be close to the animals he was studying. So, he started working in television, visiting animals in their natural habitats and telling the world the untold stories of these animals.
